She had a bad day

Have you heard of the girl that’s overcome with tears when she unstraps her bra and sinks into her bed after a long day?

From sunrise she begins constructing an emotional wall to keep her shielded from the dismay,

The morning commute is filled with thoughts on how she’s constantly searching for reassurance from a man who doesn’t have her in his long term plans,

An occasional break from these thoughts are given once compliments are dished out from guys on the street who profess they’ll treat her better than her man,

A compliment or two may leave her with a genuine smile,
Any more than that, she’ll head to twitter to post about how the catcalling is draining, hashtag..men are trash,

Two steps into her workplace and she realizes this isn’t where she wants to be,

Jaded with this routine, this lifestyle,
She’s immediately met by a coworker,

The coworker who prays for her the night before,
Then preys on her during work hours,

Disappointing, frustrating and annoying..but he’s one of the favorite employees,

The one whose privileged and seems like he can do no wrong,

His predatorial behaviors doesn’t sit right with her,
She wants to stand for herself,

She’s hesitant on face to face with HR,
They never seem to face the problem,

A story too many women are familiar with,
She keeps it on a hush,
Plants it in the back of her mind,

Lunch break was supposed to be a date with boyfriend,
Boyfriend looks at the relationship as more of a friends with benefit thing,

He doesn’t show,
She sees him showing up on her Instagram feed,

Heart emojis from girls he’s never mentioned to her before,
She’s in a public space so she keeps the cries at bay,
She decides to plant it in the back of her mind,

Hours go by and the work day has concluded,
A text from one of the girls mentioning happy hour seems to give her hope for a happy ending to an exhausting day,

A few cocktails has her a bit dizzy,
A little slur in her speech,
She’s laughing and feels alive for the first time today,

A feeling she wish she could hold on to,
Home is calling her and she remembers she has responsibilities in the morning,

Her keys jingle,
Door opens,

The thoughts that she planted in the back of her mind have grown to the forefront,

She no longer has to hide tears,
She’s no longer in a public place,

She sinks into her bed and the tears begin to flood her pillows,

She had a bad day.
